The Amazon
Your assigned text discusses the impacts of deforestation on the Amazon, and it also covers some of the solutions from the perspectives of different environmental organizations (four types). It also discusses the initiatives by the government. A summary of this will be presented here in due course.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES FOR THE AMAZON REGION
At the end of the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest part of our tour, students will be able to:
1. Articulate the key concepts about climate change and environmental decline.
2. Describe the factors (logging, farming, mining) that are causing deforestation in the area
3. Discuss the specific impact of oil extraction on environmental quality and the local communities.
4. Describe the drivers behind loss of habitat and species extinction.
5. Explain the complex interactions of the factors above and what is being done locally, regionally and internationally to address the problems.
